TripAdvisor has become one of the go-to websites for travelers to figure out where they should stay when taking a vacation.

For 17 years, the travel review and booking site has analyzed millions of its readers’ comments and opinions to name the best hotels in the U.S. and in the world.

For 2019, the United States leads in TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice award for hotels, with 165 of its properties making the list. Italy followed closely with 164 properties and Spain with 163 winners.

Overall, TripAdvisor recognized 7,812 properties in 94 countries. It also divided up winners into nine categories: Top Hotels Overall, Luxury, Bargain, Small, Best Service, B&Bs and Inns, Romance, Family and All-Inclusive.  

“Travelers can consider these award winners when picking the perfect hotel for their needs – for any budget or trip type – to help inspire their travels in 2019,” says Desiree Fish, vice president of global communications for TripAdvisor.

In the U.S., California and Florida both have the most award winners with 22. South Carolina has 14 properties on the list and Massachusetts has 12.

  2. The Nantucket Hotel & Resort, Nantucket, Massachusetts
  3. The Spectator Hotel, Charleston, South Carolina
  4. The Inn at Lost Creek, Mountain Village, Colorado
  5. Hotel Jackson, Jackson Hole, Wyoming
  6. Williamsburg Inn, Williamsburg, Virginia
  7. Trump International Hotel Washington D.C.
  8. Hotel Emma, San Antonio, Texas
  9. The Peninsula Chicago
  10. Sonnenalp, Vail, Colorado

The best hotel overall in the world is Tulemar Bungalows & Villas in Costa Rica.
