Win a PS100 wilko voucher by photographing a bird in your garden
Winter is a tough time for wild birds - and without much food, it can be hard for them to survive the bleak winter.
Thankfully, with wilko’s superb range of wild bird food – delivering nutritious, balanced meals – you could see Starlings, Sparrows and Robins flocking to your feeders.
"Supplying fresh water is also key, because when it’s freezing a bird’s usual sources of water are often not available. Break any ice on your pond/s or water feature, and try putting out some lukewarm water – the birds will love it.
"Finally, if your garden is covered in snow try to clear some ground and put some soft food down for the songbirds who can’t reach the feeders. Suet blocks and pellets work particularly well as they give the birds a great energy boost and plenty of calories, which are needed to cope with the bitter weather.
"Also, it’s worth considering other wildlife in your garden e.g. how can you provide shelters for hedgehogs and other garden visitors? For further information and advice, we’d recommend visit www.homes.rspb.org.uk."
